Today’s Reading Romans 1-8
We are in Day 17 of a 40 day read through the New Testament challenge today. The first 21 days of readings will be listed at the end of this post
***End Note ***
Breaking up used to seem little harder than it is today. Google is filled with breakup texts like the one that is at the top of this post. Can you imagine how impersonal something like that would be? It does seem as this is the natural progression of the disposable world we now live in.
Nothing lasts forever anymore. Medicine of all kinds is now sold in single use packs, there is ready-made pb& j sandwiches, and there is even pre-made disposable packages of bread and juice for handy communion use! I assume then it shouldn’t be such a surprise so many now look at relationships as disposable as well. Yet, it still feels wrong.
Reading through this morning’s selection from Romans today, I was struck with this passage at the end of Chapter 8:
38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
What a wonderful thing to know, God is not going anywhere! Jesus is with us for the long haul. In fact, the whole bible is a reminder of the width, depth, and height of God’s love for us. God has claimed us. We are not disposable, God will not cast us aside, it’s not going to happen. Sometimes this simple but powerful statement is exactly what I need to hear.
What do you think?
