Queen produced a song in 1989 that I believe was very prophetic, “I want it all”. I was reminded of the song this morning as I sat down from my morning walk with my wife. I turned on the television and saw a commercial asking the important question to men, “do you want to lose several inches?” Well that peaked my interest.
After all, for the last six weeks or so, I have been watching what I have been eating, walking every day, and even working out a bit. So if there was something else I could be doing I think I was ready to sign up. It was then that we were shown the answer to our problems
Of course, a T-shirt is the answer. No muss, no fuss, no sweat. I could simply put on the shirt and “lose” several inches. We find ourselves in a world where we want it all…and we want it now. However, not only do we want it but we want it without any sacrifice at all.
As a husband, I want the perfect marriage. As a father, I want perfect children. As a pastor, I want a church filled with committed disciples. As a follower of Jesus, I want to understand his vision for my life. However, in each case there is no magic T-shirt to hide the flaws. In each case, I need to be willing to out in the work. Nothing in this life that is worth having comes without a price.
The question is am I willing to work for it?
