Well we started our first week of “Training Camp” at Glassboro Methodist. Just as each football training camp begins with preparation we talked about the preparation we need to be followers of Jesus. We looked at Paul’s words in Romans 15, to “accept others as Christ accepted us”. It seems to me in the light of the shooting recently in the Sikh temple acceptance is something this world is sorely lacking.
In my reading it seems Paul was convinced that Jesus came for all people and seemed just as convinced that his church should be open to all people. We can’t be followers of Jesus without living out what Bishop Schnase calls Radical Hospitality.
This means that we need to take a look at ourselves. Have we so intertwined our lives with each other that there is no room for “the other”? Have we loved each other so well that we have no love left for the stranger?
I’m convinced that the church is filled with people of mercy and grace however, we need to work together to ensure that mercy and grace is extended outwards to a world who so desperately needs it. We are not a club instead we are the church of Jesus Christ.
We need to live our lives in such a way to being glory to God and one way to do just that is to live a radical existence that welcomes all and values all.
I wanna be a Radical!
